Yep we’re quite vocal this week and saying ‘fuck you’ to whatever makes our lives more difficult than necessary.

(Shall we make a Fuck XYZ series out of this? 😈)

Recently we spoke about imposter syndrome and today we’d like to cover another trait that many of us struggle with.

Humility. When growing up we’re taught that this is a virtue. Be humble they said, and great things will come to you. (gosh totally hearing my granny’s voice whilst typing this)

Well, let’s talk about what actually will NOT come to us when being humble: Job offers, new clients, promotions, pay raises — the list goes on.

Is this you?

  • You say ‘we’ instead of ‘I’ when talking about accomplishments in a job interview.
  • You’re afraid that speaking up for yourself and advocating powerfully and compellingly for what you want makes you less likeable.
  • You feel guilty when putting yourself first or asking for what you want and deserve.

Women all over the world are being trained by society and culture to be modest, unassuming — to avoid at all costs being seen as proud or assertive.

For women to be considered feminine, appealing, or acceptable, they have to be unassertive, submissive, agreeable and pleasing at all times. While men are not receiving this same cultural message.

Like what the actual fuck.

So how about for a hot minute we put away all the negative experiences that our humility led to, and instead answer this:

What do you honestly think about being proud of who you are, and about sharing your contributions and achievements — and why they matter — with others?

Do you belong to the women shunning it, fearing you’ll look arrogant and unlikeable, or do you embrace it an inspiring way?

What if ditching humility and proudly speaking about that amazing job offer you got will inspire another woman to leave that toxic jobs she’s in? What if sharing your latest salary bump will motivate your co-worker to stand up for a pay raise as well and finally be paid market average?

Let’s help each other become more comfortable being proud of who we really are, and assertive in positive ways that actually move us forward

What is something that YOU are proud of? Leave a comment and let’s empower and motivate each other x
